CEMETERY MEMORIAL COMPETITION - 3RD PLACE
a place of remembrance of Hungarians resting beyond our borders
Year: 2023
Location: Budapest, Fiume street cemetery
Coworkers: Baranyi Judit, Temesvári Bence, Perényi Flóra + Perényi Tamás
The competition is an attempt to create a space for remembrance; a space that stands out from its surroundings not because of its monumentality but because of its intimacy. The Hungarians resting beyond our borders do not form a definable community; they are a diverse group of individuals in time, space and cause of death. The only common element of Hungarians beyond our borders, beyond religion, origin and epochs, is language, herefore, the starting point of the competition is a moldavian folk ballad. The plan consists of three closely interrelated elements: a flower garden, the low wall surrounding it and the two gates on the wall. The concept, based on the analogy of individual tombs, consists of a stone frame and the flowers planted on it. Here the flower garden represents the common grave, with flowers for all those who do not have their own burial place.
