HOUSE IN THE CASTLE

Renovation and extension of a historic residential building under Petermann bíró street 9.

Year: 2010

Location: Akacfa, Klauzal street, Budapest

Architects: Perényi Tamás, Bitó János, Fülöp Gyula

The existing classicist building on the site was built in the 1830s for the purpose of a residential house, but in World War II, the northern, almost 7-meter axis was destroyed.

The plan not only proposes the restoration of the missing section of the building, but also an instalment that - reluctantly - considers the aptitudes of the newly built large neighbour (Anjou Residence) and the need to cover the huge firewall in the house. In addition, it wants to avoid giving the additional part the impression of a building separately built on a gap site, as such a narrow and high standalone facade would be an alien element among the typical scales and rhythm system of the castle streets. The brick cladding of the planned facade area is hand-shaped sand-coloured brick; the old building was painted the same colour.
